Your own interpretor

Most of the meetings with Chinese require interpretation. Don't even try to find out how many Chinese in one delegation speaks Chinese, even if they do, it's better to have an interpretator so:

  • The real meaning will be understood properly between you and your Chinese
  • You will have time to think what to say and prepare your words
  • You will be able to double check with the interpreter if you said things in the proper way
  • You can ask the interpreter to find out more information about the Chinese for you
  • many other benefits

Actually a good interpreter is vey hard to find, to let both understand and to translate properly is the basic needs, but there are common problems with many interpreters:

  • speaking good English or the meeting languages but don't know the technical facts and terms
  • good in translating Chinese political talks but doesn't make much sense for Europeans
  • speaking the languages properly but can not present if in the way that fit European culture
  • Not translating the whole sentences, just pick up the importance that the interpreter belives

You as an European can easily face a hopeless situation, when Chinese suddenly start a very loud and tuff discussion while the interpreter is not translating for you what happens. Or you get a short summary at the end, so you missed your chance to influence the discussion.

Therefore, it is important to have your own interpreter, even if there is already one from the Chinese side. We only use interpreters who:

  • speak good English and at least one more European languages
  • speak proper mandarin Chinese which is also updated to the modern China
  • know the European culture and ethics
  • familiar with the terminology and topics used in the meeting
  • are consulting minded, so he or she can support you during the whole  meetings, so you will not lose the total controll
  • is willing to explain more backgroud information about special terms to the foreigner
  • is honest for situation which he or she has difficulty to translate, dare to ask
